When my husband Jeff and I got married in 2006, I knew that I wanted to incorporate intimate elements of our families into our wedding ceremony. I'm a fashion designer, after all... I'm obsessed with the details! I began seeking out a piece of fabric with special significance to use for our chuppah, and I ended up finding a lovely Shabbat tablecloth that had been cross-stitched by Jeff's mom (an art that both she and Jeff's grandmother used to do). Not only was the cloth beautiful, but it fit in perfectly with our outdoor upstate wedding.

A few months later, one of my closest friends, Liza, asked me to help re-fit the wedding dress of her aunt, who had passed away. When we realized it wasn't going to work for her dress (unless we got all "Pretty in Pink" on it), we decided to transform the fabric into the chuppah, so that it could still play a role in the ceremony. I took the dress apart, restored some of the lace and then combined it with silk organza. Liza and her fiancee Eric were thrilled, and I received countless compliments on the piece. And thus, Four Branches by Traci Kaye was born!

As a Jewish woman who loves the significance of the chuppah, and with 12 years of experience as a designer for companies including Katayone Adeli, A/X and Foley + Corinna, the art of creating wedding canopies merges two passions close to my heart. For this reason, I embrace the idea of merging the beautiful elements of two families into one cohesive piece that represents the home you will create together.
